Oakdale Police Blotter: Man Gets Some Early Trick-or-Treaters

In other reports, two dog owners were cited after their pit bulls were at large.

A resident in the 4200 block of Hamlet Avenue reported that more than a week before Halloween, he had two teenage boys show up at his house and say “trick or treat,” according to an Oakdale Police Department report.

One of the boys was wearing pantyhose over his face, and the other was carrying a red umbrella, according to the report. Both of the boys, who were around 15 or 16 years old, were wearing black sweatpants with one leg pulled up to the knee.

When the man told them to leave, they said, “are you sure you don’t have anything for us, man?” and then headed north on Hamlet Avenue, the report says.

Police checked the area, but didn’t locate the boys, according to the report.

The following incidents were also reported to Oakdale police Oct. 18 to 22:

Oct. 18:

  • Names and obscene sayings were scratched into a sign at Echo Ridge Apartments between Oct. 14 and 18. The property damage estimate is $1,135.
  • A $100 GPS device and $200 iPod touch were stolen from a vehicle parked in a lot in the 1200 block of Glenbrook Avenue. The complainant reported the vehicle was locked, but there was no damage to the vehicle.

Oct. 19:

  • A resident in the 1000 block of Gershwin Avenue reported that on Oct. 18 at about 9:30 p.m. someone shot a BB through his bedroom window. The BB only went through the outer pane of the window, and it caused an estimated $500 damage.
  • Between midnight and 7 a.m. Oct. 17, someone stole the catalytic converter off a car parked in a lot in the 6200 block of 40th Street. The owner said he noticed the vehicle was making weird noises, so he took it to a mechanic who told him the converter was gone.
  • Police responded to for a report of a pit bull at large, and found the animal at 15th Street and Grospoint Avenue. While transporting the dog to the animal shelter, its owner arrived at the Oakdale Police Department and asked that they bring the dog back. Police returned the dog and cited its owner for dog at large.
  • A video camera was stolen from an unlocked storage room in the media center at between 2:45 p.m. Oct. 13 and 8 a.m. Oct. 14.
  • An Oakdale man reported that while walking his beagle in the 5400 block of Golfview Avenue a pit bull from one of the homes ran across the street and attacked his dog. The pit bull’s mouth was around his dog’s neck, causing a puncture wound. The owner of the pit bull said she tried to catch it before it ran out into the street, but it was too fast. The pit bull was quarantined and is considered potentially dangerous.
  • Someone smashed the back window out of a vehicle parked at between 7:35 and 9:10 p.m. and stole a computer bag containing a laptop, a black school bag and a wallet. While police were on the scene, a motorist found the computer bag on the shoulder of the road in the 7300 block of 33rd Street. The backpack was also recovered there, however the wallet and computer weren’t recovered. The property damage estimate is $250.

Oct. 20:

  • A $150 iPod Nano and $10 cable were stolen from a car parked in the 7700 block of 44th Street overnight between Oct. 11 and 12. The garage door had been left open at the home.

Oct. 21:

  • A $200 digital camera, $70 in cash and tax documents were stolen from an unlocked car parked in a driveway in the 3500 block of Genevieve Avenue between Oct. 7 and 8. The complainant reported the incident to the credit bureaus and on Oct. 20 was notified that someone had attempted to obtain an insurance quote with his personal information.
  • Someone stole a $100 floodlight from the roof of between Oct. 16 and 21.
  • A wallet, radar detector, phone charger, CDs and cash with a total value of $328 were stolen from an unlocked car parked at . The owner is installing more cameras in the lot because multiple employees' vehicles have been tampered with.

Oct. 22:

  • A woman reported as she was driving her boyfriend home from a bar, he punched her windshield, causing it to crack. She had picked him up because he got into a fight at the bar. The man had calmed down when police arrived, and the woman did not want to press charges.
  • A home in the 6400 block of 55th Street was burglarized while its owner was in the hospital. A friend of the owner found that someone had gone through the home. The kitchen window of the home was broken, and the screen was cut. Police have a suspect.
