Oakdale Police Blotter: Police Stop Suicidal Teen

Teen said he was planning to jump into traffic

Oakdale police stopped a suicidal teen around 12:30 p.m. Monday who told them he was planning to jump into traffic, according to an Oakdale police report.

 A complainant from HSI had called police to report that a 15-year-old left on foot saying “you better call the paramedics.” The complainant believed the teen was suicidal, and that he was heading toward Interstate 694, the report says.

Police found the boy, who admitted to making the statement and said he was planning to hurt himself, according to the report. He was transported to United Hospital.

Following are other incidents that were reported on March 21:

  • Police checked on a man sleeping in the back seat of a car in the 5600 block of Hadley Avenue. The man said he was homeless and he had permission to use the car—owned by his girlfriend—to sleep in. Police contacted the car’s owner who verified the man’s story.
  • A 19-year-old Cottage Grove man was cited for possession of a small amount of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia after police made contact with him and the other occupants of a vehicle sitting in the Oakdale Mall parking lot around 7 p.m.
  • A resident in the 6700 block of Eighth Street reported that his neighbor had scrap metal in a trailer at his home in violation of city ordinance. The man told police he would be getting rid of the scrap metal within 20 minutes.
  • A resident of Canada called the police to report that he had been staying at the for the past week, and he lost his passport. He said it could also be at 3M. Police told the man that if anyone turned it in, he would be notified.
  • While on patrol, an officer observed a 37-year-old woman yelling out the window of her car across traffic in the 2600 block of Hadley Avenue at an 18-year-old man. Police determined that they were a mother and son having an argument about the son having chewing tobacco in the house. The parties agreed to separate, with the mother returning home and the son continuing his walk.
  • A resident in the 2300 block of Hallmark Avenue reported that two men knocked on her door and stated that one of their cell phones’ GPS reported it being at her home. He said he had lost the phone at a bar. The complainant said she didn’t know whether the men were connected to her son, or if their actions were a ruse to see whether her home was occupied.
  • A complainant from requested special checks between 11 p.m. and midnight because he finds from 12 to 24 beer cans from the parking lot at the business regularly.
  • An Oakdale resident reported someone made two fraudulent charges to his debit card totaling $181.55 at Virginia businesses.
  • Someone shattered a glass top patio table outside Hearing Components, Inc., and then threw two large landscape rocks at it, damaging the legs. The vandalism caused $200 in damage.
  • A complainant reported that while driving by a bus stop in the 6500 block of Highway 36 Boulevard, a 9-year-old student threw a rock at her windshield causing $200 in property damage. Police contacted the student’s mother.
