Oakdale Police Blotter: Women Caught Shoplifting, Fled Police

In other incidents, multiple thefts from vehicles reported.

Two women caught shoplifting at Friday June 3 fled police and became involved in a hit-and-run accident, according to an Oakdale Police Department report.

Around 4:15 p.m. a loss prevention officer at the store attempted to stop the two women—a 33-year-old from St. Paul and 34-year-old from Cottage Grove—for stealing three pairs of shoes and two pairs of sandals with a total value of $335, the report says. The merchandise was recovered in the parking lot, but one of the women fought the security officer and then they fled, the report says. The car was then involved in a hit-and-run accident in Woodbury, according to the report.

The women were both arrested and held in the Washington County Jail. One of the women had a felony warrant out of Hennepin County, according to the report.

  • An Oakdale resident reported that someone fraudulently made purchases totaling $2,800 from her bank account between May 27 and May 31. She had her debit card and is unaware how someone got her account number.
  • Someone stole a $380 stereo from a locked vehicle parked in a driveway in the 3600 block of Gentry Avenue.
  • While attempting to park in the parking lot, a 17-year-old boy accidentally stepped on the gas pedal instead of the brake, hitting one car and pushing it into another car. The driver was cited, and both parked vehicles had to be towed.

June 4:

  • The drivers of three vehicles all pumped gas at at 10th Street and Helmo Avenue at the same time and then left without paying. Each pumped about $50 worth of gas.
  • A checkbook, stereo and pocketknife with a total value of $200 were stolen from a vehicle parked in a driveway in the 7600 block of 31st Street between midnight and 9:30 a.m. June 4. The stereo was ripped out of the dashboard causing $200 damage.
  • Various credit cards and bank cards were stolen from a car parked at . Police recovered the wallet.
  • The driver of a vehicle who rear-ended a car at 10th and Hadley Avenue and then hit another vehicle in the nearby Holiday station parking lot was found to be having a heart attack.
  • A resident in the 500 block of Glenbrook Avenue reported that someone pried open her locked mailbox. There was no damage to the mailbox and it is unknown whether any mail was taken.
  • A loss prevention officer at reported that a woman used a Target Visa card at the store that was found to have been stolen from a car in Maplewood earlier that day. She used the card to purchase four gift cards for $425. The cards were de-activated.
  • A resident in the 500 block of Granada Avenue reported that a $50 tire was removed from the rear passenger side of her vehicle between 5 p.m. May 30 and 7 p.m. June 4.

June 5:

  • A 48-year-old man allegedly fought with and pushed a 25-year-old woman in a domestic incident in the 4400 block of Helena Way. The man reported that the woman punched him.
  • A $300 stereo faceplate was stolen from an unlocked vehicle parked in a driveway in the 7400 block of 44th Street.
  • An 85-year-old man hit the gas instead of the brakes when leaving the parking lot and drove into the entrance of the store. One of his relatives drive him home. The front doors of the store were damaged.
  • A driver turning left from southbound Hadley Avenue into Gas Mart reported that another driver failed to yield at the stop sign exiting the gas mart and struck his car leaving a dent in the rear driver’s side door. The car then immediately drove off.
  • Someone shattered two exterior lights and a glass torch with a total value of $275 at . They also removed letters from their business sign causing the sign to contain profanity and stole $20 worth of wood. The incident occurred between 5 p.m. June 4 and 10 a.m. June 5. Police are reviewing surveillance video, and they collected blood evidence from inside the glass case of the torch and one exterior light.  
  • A complainant in the 3700 block of Gershwin Lane reported that her sister’s husband came to the residence and attacked a man who was with her sister. The victim did not want to pursue charges.

June 6:

  • A $99 stereo was stolen from a truck parked in the 1200 block of Glenbrook Avenue. The owner of the vehicle said he saw a man standing near the open window of his truck before he realized the stereo was missing.
  • Police saw a vehicle leaving the parking lot of Knowlan’s Market—where there’s a Linder’s Greenhouse—around 3:50 a.m. with flowers and leaves hanging out of the trunk. The driver admitted to taking bushes from the greenhouse. The Maplewood Police Department followed up on the incident.
