Oakdale Police Make Arrest, Issue Warning About Setting Off Fire Alarms

There have been several recent incidents of fire alarms being set off in apartment buildings in Oakdale.

The Oakdale Police Department on Tuesday announced an Oct. 1 arrest following a fire alarm that was intentionally tripped at the Geneva Village Apartments.

It was one of several similar incidents in Oakdale of late, and officials are warning people of the civil and legal consequences of tampering with a fire alarm.

“While false alarms may be an annoyance which builds complacency, it is critically important you respond to the activation of a fire alarm and follow building evaluation procedures,” reads a release from the department.

The Oct. 1 arrest happened a little before 3 a.m., when authorities were dispatched to the apartment building after the fire alarm was set off, according to a police report.

A witness identified a man in the lobby, who during an interview with police admitted he pulled the alarm, and added that he was “mad and stupid,” according to the report.
