Oakdale Teacher Sentenced For Planning Sex Act Service With Vulnerable Adult

Tameshia Leann Allen-Hodges, 23, could have received up to 15 years in prison for her crime.

A 23-year-old Oakdale woman was given five years probation and ordered to serve 90 days in Washington County Jail after she pleaded guilty to taking advantage of a vulnerable adult while working as as substitute teacher in a transitional school for adults with disabilities.

Allen-Hodges was originally charged with a second felony—first-degree sex trafficking—but the charge was dismissed in exchange for her guilty plea.

Washington County District Court Judge Gary Schurrer stayed the imposition of a 15-year sentence—the maximum sentence allowed in the case—provided Allen-Hodges remains law abiding and submits to psychosexual and chemical dependency evaluations.

Prior to sentencing, defense attorney Carolina Lamas asked Schurrer for a lesser sentence, citing a lack of sexual intent.

"There were no sex acts alleged or performed in this case," Lamas argued. "There was no coercion or force involved in the victim's actions."

The judge dismissed Lamas' request during sentencing.

"It appears to me the only reason (sexual acts) did not occur is because the victim got scared, I'm sure, and backed out of the situation," Schurrer said. "Just because sex acts did not occur doesn't make this a less serious offense."

Of the 90-day sentence, Allen-Hodges will serve 30 days in the Washington County Sentence-to-Serve program and 60 days under house arrest so she can continue raising her 4-year-old daughter.
