Police Say Woman Used Stolen Credit Card on $1,000 Purchase in Oakdale

Cassie Jo Burkhart-Chevre has been charged with felony credit-card fraud. She was convicted in September of misdemeanor theft in Hennepin County Court.

A St. Paul woman on probation for theft in Hennepin County has been charged with using a stolen credit card to buy more than $1,000 worth of merchandise from an Oakdale store in August.

Cassie Jo Burkhart-Chevre, 28, is charged with felony credit-card fraud, which carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a $10,000 fine.

According to the criminal complaint, Oakdale police were alerted in mid-August that someone had used a stolen credit card at Menards in Oakdale. The suspect bought $1,158 worth of items.

Police obtained surveillance video and copies of the transaction receipt from Menards and subsequently identified the suspect as Burkhart-Chevre.

Police confronted Burkhart-Chevre at her home on Aug. 27, and she admitted using the stolen credit card at Menards. She also told police that she had used the same card at other Menards locations in Minnesota, according to the complaint.

Burkhart-Chevre was convicted in September of misdemeanor theft in Hennepin County Court and was placed on one year of probation.

She has been released from custody on a $25,000 bond in the Oakdale case and is scheduled to make an initial appearance Dec. 17 in Washington County District Court.
