St. Paul Woman Jailed For Identity Theft at Oakdale Best Buy

Oakdale police recognized surveillance footage of Julia Lynn Hobbs, 37, from previous investigations.

A 37-year-old St. Paul woman was sentenced to 21 months in prison after pleading guilty to one count of felony identity theft on Jan. 25.

According to a warrant complaint filed last August, Julia Lynn Hobbs forged a check in the name of an Inver Grove Heights woman to purchase a 3D television at Oakdale's on June 1.  

The Inver Grove Heights victim reported the fraud to and local police after realizing someone had used her name and account number to buy a television worth $2,035.34.

Oakdale police secured the Best Buy surveillance footage from the day in question and immediately recognized Hobbs from previous investigations, the complaint states.  

Originally charged with identity theft and check forgery—both felonies—Washington County District Court Judge Tad Jude dismissed the latter charge in exchange for Hobbs' guilty plea.

Hobbs was also given credit for 188 days served and ordered to pay restitution in the amount of $4,035.34.
