Victims Report $30,000 Worth of Items Stolen in Home Burglaries

A North St. Paul woman has been charged with second-degree burglary from a couple of incidents stemming from 2010. 

Jacqueline Ann Horwath, 24, made her first appearance in Washington County District Court last week on the charge. 

According to the criminal complaint:

The Oakdale Police Department was dispatched to a home on Hadley Avenue on Nov. 19, 2010 on a report of a burglary. 

A woman house sitting the residence reported that when she returned to the home she found the garage service door was damaged and the house had been rummated through. The woman said a laptop was missing, but she was unsure of what else might have been taken.

Police recovered fingerprints and a Kleenex tissue with dried blood on it at the scene. 

Police were dispatched to the same home on Nov. 20, 2010 on a report that both vehicles on the property had been stolen after the first burglary. 

The North St. Paul Police Department located one of the vehicles at an apartment complex. Police searched the vehicle and found a plastic straw, cigarette butts and Kleenex with dried blood on it. The items were sent to the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension. 

The BCA's report found that the female sample matched all of the items.

Police later received information from a group of tast force officers that Horwath was involved with the burglaries. Horwath was at Ramsey County Jail where officers colleged a DNA sample for testing. 

Horwath's DNA sample matched that of the DNA on the straw and bloody Kleenex.

The homeowners reported that approximately $30,000 worth of items were stolen from the residence, including jewelry, clothing and collectibles.  

If found guilty Horwath could face up to 10 years in prison and pay up to $20,000.
