Woman Faces Eight Felony Tax Charges

Catherine Mary Anton has been charged with four counts of filing false tax returns and four counts of failing to pay taxes.

The Washington County Attorney’s Office recently charged Catherine Mary Anton, 44, of Lake Elmo, with eight tax felonies, the Minnesota Department of Revenue on Tuesday.

Anton in March 2012 pleaded guilty to theft by swindle and was ordered to pay more than $75,000 in restitution, but she allegedly failed to report the embezzled income, leading to erroneous refunds.

Anton has been charged with four counts of filing false tax returns and four counts of failing to pay taxes.

The charges each carry a maximum penalty of up to five years in prison and up to a $10,000 fine.
