City Approves Final Phase of Ballpark Improvements

The Oakdale City Council approved the final bid for improvements on one of its baseball fields.

The Oakdale City Council approved the final bid for the reconstruction of the Tanners Lake Baseball Field Monday night.

The city has budgeted $245,000 to reconstruct the . So far the city has spent $202,000 on improvements, including installing new lights last year. 

All that's left of the project is installing irrigation and sodding in the ballpark's infield.

The city received two bids to complete the work for $20,000 or $30,000. The city voted 5-0 to approve the cheaper bid, putting the total project under the city's estimate by approximately $24,000, said Randy Bastyr, the city's Parks and Buildings Superintendent. 

The baseball field isn't the only facility getting improvements.

The City Council also approved a request to seek bids for rehabilitating Wellhouse #2. The wellhouse was built in 1964 and is the oldest wellhouse in town, said Brian Bachmeier, the city engineer. 

This wellhouse will be one of several other wellhouses in the city that has been rehabilitated. The building will have several improvements made, including new brick, relocating doors, replacing bearings and shafts and some landscaping. 

The project is part of the 2012-2017 Capital Improvement Project plan and is budgeted for $350,000, which includes electrical, equipment and building and surfacing improvements.
