City Commission to Hear Economic Assessment of Oakdale Wednesday

The assessment addresses employment, housing, businesses indicators and city amenities.

Oakdale’s Economic Development Commission members are scheduled to hear a report aimed at giving them a snapshot of the community at their meeting Wednesday.

Points made in the report include:

  • Oakdale has a lower percentage of residents with bachelor’s degrees than the metro average, but a higher percentage with associate’s degrees than average.
  • About 94 percent of the Oakdale workforce works outside of the city.
  • Unemployment among Oakdale residents peaked in 2009 at 7.79 percent, and declined slowly to 6.47 percent in April 2011.
  • Housing in Oakdale is more affordable than the metro or county average.
  • While the metro area lost 112,017 jobs from 2005 to 2010, Oakdale gained 280 jobs in the same period.
