Commissioner Pulkrabek Pushed out of Oakdale's District in New County Board Plan

A redistricting plan passed by the Washington County Board Tuesday puts Pulkrabek in the same district with incumbent Lisa Weik.

Washington County Commissioner Bill Pulkrabek will have to move from his Woodbury home or face Commissioner Lisa Weik in this fall’s election, after the Washington County Board scrapped a redistricting map Tuesday that it had informally agreed to last week, according to a Pioneer Press report.

Under the new plan, Woodbury is represented by three different commissioner—Districts 2, 4 and 5—according to a press release from the county. Oakdale is still all within one district, District 2, which also includes Landfall, Birchwood, Pine Springs, Willernie, the Washington County portion of White Bear Lake, Mahtomedi and three Woodbury precincts, the press release says.

The entire board—other than District 4 Commissioner Autumn Lehrke, whose district's population changed less than 5 percent—will be up for re-election this fall. Oakdale’s district, District 2, is the only seat that will be up for a two-year term this fall, the release says. All the others will be four-year terms, the press release says.

Pulkrabek accused fellow county commissioners of orchestrating “backroom deals,” according to the Pioneer Press report, however other commissioners denied the accusation saying they made the changes based on input from the cities.
