Councilman: Why Washington County Government Trumps Federal

"Our country is not only a great place to live but our county government does an excellent job of providing services to our residents at a reasonable cost," says Richard Glasgow, a council member in Lakeland.

Letter to the editor by Richard Glasgow, Lakeland City Council

For over 60 years I’ve lived in this county and have had many dealings with just about every department. The county has. I can count on one hand, minus a couple of fingers, the negative experiences I have had.

So, why is that? Is it because it concentrates on core and essential services? Or because it is a small uncomplicated form of government? Or because it is non-partisan?

Hold on a minute, that is it. Our five commissioners don't caucus… don’t run for office on a party platform… and do work together for the benefit of the residents not the party.

Thank you Commissioners Gary Kriesel, Autumn Lehrke, Lisa Weik, Ted Bearth and Fran Miron for performing your oath of office no matter what side of the political aisle you fall on.

—Richard Glasgow, Lakeland City Council
