Editor's Notebook: City Gets Inquiry About Coffee Shop at Former Gas Station Site

Also, council members say they want to see city meetings streamed online and tobacco shop donates toward veterans memorial

Coffee Shop Expresses Interest in Former Gas Station: Oakdale’s Community Development Department received an inquiry about locating a Dunn Bros coffee shop at the site of a former gas station in the northeast corner of the intersection of Highways 36 and 120, said Community Development Director Bob Streetar. City staff hasn’t yet met with the developer who expressed interest, he said. The CEO of maX it PAWN in locating a pawnshop at the site, however the City Council decided to limit the number of pawnshops in Oakdale to one.

Council Interested in Web Streaming City Meetings: In a workshop meeting Tuesday, Oakdale City Council member Paul Reinke said he’d like to look into streaming city council meetings online. Council members Stan Karwoski and Lori Pulkrabek said they supported the idea as well. Pulkrabek said Maplewood and North St. Paul already post streaming video of their meetings to the Internet, so the Ramsey/Washington Suburban Cable Commission should already have some infrastructure in place for streaming.

Smokedale Tobacco Raises Money for Vets: Oakdale Veterans Memorial Committee member Ted Bearth recognized at Tuesday’s Oakdale City Council meeting for its donation of $758 toward the memorial. The shop has been selling empty cigar boxes as a fundraiser, Bearth said, and will continue selling more.
