Editor's Notebook: Harley Raffle Will Support Vets, Council Puts off Decision on Oakdale Nature Preserve Garage

The Oakdale Veterans Memorial Committee hopes to make about $10,000 from raffling off a Harley Davidson motorcycle.

Council Holds Off on Awarding Bid for Garage at Nature Center:  The Oakdale City Council decided at its meeting Tuesday, March 27, to wait on awarding a bid for the construction of a storage garage at the until they could find out how much a change to the design would increase its price tag. Due to concerns that a 44-by-45 foot garage would be too big for the site of the former nature center building, the council asked contractors to also bid on a smaller 40-by-40 garage. Council members Paul Reinke and Lori Pulkrabek said they could support the larger sized garage if it had a corner cut out for aesthetic purposes, however if doing that is cost prohibitive, they’d favor the smaller size. Reinke said he was concerned about “very large, monolithic walls,” of the proposed garage. Council members Kent Dotas, Carmen Sarrack and Stan Karwoski said they would support the larger size garage with or without the corner removed.
