Editor’s Notebook: Meeting on Tanner’s Site Set, Trees to Screen Salt Shed

A developer has "very preliminary" plans for upscale rental housing at the Tanner's Lake redevelopment site.

MnDOT Agrees to Screen its Salt Shed: The Minnesota Department of Transportation has agreed to plant 18 foot pine trees around its large salt shed, which  from Interstate 694 and Hadley Avenue, said Oakdale Mayor Carmen Sarrack. The shed sits on at the northeast corner of Hadley Avenue and Highway 5. City Administrator Craig Waldron, Sarrack and Oakdale’s legislators reached the agreement with MnDOT officials in a meeting at the Capitol Tuesday, Sarrack said. They’ll do the planting in the spring, Sarrack said.

“They’re not going to cover the building right away, but it’s going to look good in the end,” Sarrack said at Tuesday night’s Oakdale City Council meeting. “It’s a pretty expensive proposition that MnDOT’s going to pay for.”

Council Sets Meeting on Tanner’s Lake Site: The Oakdale City Council plans to hear from Stillwater-based HAF Architects at its workshop meeting Jan. 24 about the company’s preliminary plan to construct high-end rental housing on the Tanner’s Lake redevelopment site along Century Avenue just north of Interstate 94, said Community Development Director Bob Streetar. City Administrator Craig Waldron called the plan “very preliminary,” at Tuesday night’s Oakdale City Council meeting.
