Editor’s Notebook: Neighbors Concerned about Coffee Shop Plan

The Oakdale Veterans Memorial project was pulled out of the current version of the bonding bill.

 

Coffee Shop Plan Concerns Neighbors: Caribou Coffee might face some opposition—or at least some questions—when on the site of a vacant gas station at the intersection of Century Avenue and Highway 36 comes before the Oakdale Planning Commission Thursday, June 7. The issue was continued without discussion at the commission’s meeting this week, May 3. Business and residential neighbors that had showed up to learn about the proposal said outside of the meeting that they have concerns about parking and adding more congestion to the already busy intersection.

Vets Memorial Pulled out of Bonding Bill: As of Friday, a to help pay for a veterans memorial in front of was not included in the bonding bill being  developed by legislative leaders, Oakdale’s legislators said. Sen. Chuck Wiger (DFL-Maplewood) called it, “a modest appropriation,” and said he and Rep. Nora Slawik have been encouraging people to call Senate Majority Leader David Senjem (R-Rochester) to advocate for the project’s inclusion in the final bill.
