I-694 Ramp Closures, Construction Nears the End

The resurfacing and ramp reconstruction of I-694 is slated to end in October.

Tired of taking detours for I-694?

That's coming to an end.

The resurfacing and ramp reconstruction project on I-694 is nearing the end. The project began in mid-June and most of it will be complete by October.

Ramps from eastbound and westbound Highway 36 to I-694 south are currently closed, but should reopen in early October when the mainline of I694 is resurfaced, said a spokeswoman of the state Department of Transportation.

I-694 has been reduced to a single lane for the last several weeks, but both lanes should reopen near the end of October. There may be additional work in November on the west ramps of I-694 and Highway 61.

The resurfacing has taken place between 40th Street and Highway 61 and has impacted Oakdale, Mahtomedi, Vadnais Heights, White Bear Lake and Maplewood.

The new surface should last betwen 25 to 30 years.
