Mark Your Calendars, Autumn Activities Coming Soon to Oakdale Parks

Oakdale's Parks and Recreation Department is trying some new things, and bringing back some old favorites.

Summer might be almost over, but there are still lots of Oakdale Parks and Recreation events coming up. Following were some of the events outlined by Recreation Superintendent Julie Williams at the Tuesday, Aug. 16, Parks and Recreation Commission meeting:

  • September: A new display on groundwater from Washington County will be set up in the Discovery Room at the , Williams said. The exhibit will provide information on where groundwater comes from and how to keep it clean. Each quarter the display in the Discovery Room will rotate, Williams said.
  • Sept. 10: Raptor Center Speaker and Bird Release from 1 to 2 p.m. at the . A raptor that was injured, but has been nursed back to health, will be released back into the wild at the , according to a report by Williams. Additionally, a speaker from the University of Minnesota Raptor Center will present on how they care for orphaned birds.
  • Sept. 13: Touch a Truck from 5 to 7 p.m. at . Oakdale’s public safety and public works departments are bringing out the big rigs for residents of all ages to explore. About 500 people showed up for last year’s event, Williams said. Lions Club members will sell concessions, she said.
  • Sept. 24: Family Fun Flatables from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at . Kids will get to jump to their hearts' content. Williams said she expects about 10 to 15 inflatables to be set up in the park for the event. Concessions will be available.
  • Oct. 2, 16: Disc Golf Sundays from 12 to 4 p.m. at the . In this new program, play nine or 18 holes of disc golf for free. No registration is needed.
