Meet Legislator for Oakdale at 2013 Minnesota State Fair

Minnesota lawmakers will be on hand to answer questions from constituents during the State Fair.

Folks who head out to the State Fair for live music, corndogs and the rest will also have a chance to meet the people who represent them in the Minnesota House.

Rep. JoAnn Ward (DFL-53A) is set to be on hand from 4-6 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 28. The House of Representatives exhibit will be located in the Education Building on Cosgrove Street just north of Dan Patch Avenue.

While state legislators often head out to the fair to meet with people, new this year is a replica of the speaker’s setting in the House Chamber.

“Complete with desk, flags, gavel and the Abraham Lincoln portrait, the display gives you a feel for what it is like to stand in this position of power,” reads a release from House Information Services. “Find out the fascinating history behind the Lincoln portrait and snap a photo to post on Facebook or have as a keepsake.”

Issues that may come up with lawmakers, according to the release, include:

  • the state’s minimum wage;
  • legalizing medical marijuana;
  • requiring background checks for those wanting to purchase weapons from private sellers at gun shows; and
  • regulating dog and cat breeders.
