“It was a difficult decision to end my term early,” Park said in a prepared statement, “but with much thought over this past year, I decided that it is the best decision for myself, and for my family.”

Park is known for her “congeniality and desire to see Lake Elmo grow.”

She began her public service with the Lake Elmo Environmental Committee and then Planning Commission, before winning a seat on the Council in 2006.

She tirelessly championed the extension of sanitary sewer from I-94 to the Old Village, the release states, and worked toward creating a better environment for Lake Elmo business.

“Nicole was chiefly interested in moving this community forward and putting the struggles of our past behind us,” Mayor Mike Pearson said in a statement. “Her optimism that we could be a better community was ever present.”

Pearson has served with Park for the last three years.

“Council Member Park always sought to build consensus not only among the Council, but throughout the community,” City Administrator Dean Zuleger said. “You could always count on her encouraging smile even during the toughest of debates and the last thing she ever wanted to do was let down a taxpayer. Staff will miss her warmth and encouragement.”
