Oakdale City Council to Vote on Preliminary Tax Levy and Budget

The City of Oakdale is providing a proposed budget earlier than required to make it available to residents.

The Oakdale City Council is scheduled to vote on its preliminary tax levy at its meeting Tuesday.

Here are a few facts about the proposed levy and budget:

  • The tax levy, or amount of total tax dollars Oakdale plans to bring in, is proposed to be set $99,114 lower in 2012 than it was in 2011.
  • Property taxes make up more than 68 percent of the funding for the city’s general operations, debt payments, special capital and economic development needs.
  • Oakdale’s proposed total general levy for 2012 is $8.3 million.
  • The city’s public works, public safety, and community services budgets are all lower in 2012 than they were in 2011 under the proposed budget.

At its meeting at 7 p.m.  Tuesday, Sept. 13, at Oakdale City Hall, the council is also scheduled to:

  • Present the city’s Acorn Awards.
  • Consider approval of a three-day on-sale liquor license for for its fall festival.
  • Accept the resignation of Lee Hoskins from the Environmental Management Commission.
