Oakdale Crews Busy Digging Out

Oakdale Public Works crews hit the streets at 10 p.m. Sunday night.

Oakdale Public Works crews have been out in full force since 10 p.m. Sunday night clearing away more than 10 inches of snow from the city’s roads, said Public Works Director Brian Bachmeier.

All of the city’s roads should be clear by 2 p.m. or earlier, Bachmeier said.

“We’re getting very close,” he said at 9 a.m. Monday.

It typically takes 12 to 16 hours for a snow-clearing operation of this magnitude, he said, and snow plow drivers have been slowed down by a couple of equipment breakdowns and stranded cars, he said.

They were able to get the broken-down vehicles back on the road, he said, but at 9 a.m. another one had just come in with mechanical trouble, he said.

According to the National Weather Service, Oakdale had received about 10.2 inches of snow at 7:47 p.m. Sunday.

“It’s definitely a major snowstorm,” Bachmeier said, but not as bad as the early December snowstorm that dropped more than 20 inches on the city.

According to Minnesota State Patrol Public Information Officer Lt. Eric Roeske, there were 32 crashes in the metro area, three with injuries, between 10 p.m. Sunday night and 7:45 a.m. Monday morning. There were also 92 vehicles that spun out or went off the road, he said on Twitter.

The Minnesota Department of Transportation reported a spin out on Interstatate 694 in Oakdale between the exits for Highway 5 and 10th Street around 9:17 a.m. on its Twitter page. MnDOT also reported a spin-out in Woodbury on Interstate 94  westbound near where it meets Interstate 494/694 around 9:15 a.m.
