Oakdale Environmental Commission to Consider Water-Saving Initiative
The program would give businesses a deep discount on water-saving hardware.
At its Monday, May 16, meeting, the Environmental Management Commission is scheduled to consider promoting a program to Oakdale businesses that allows them to buy water-saving devices at a 60 to 70 percent discount.
The program would target establishments that use a lot of water, like restaurants, and offer them discounted water-saving spray valves and faucet aerators through the Statewide Water Saving Bulk Buy Program, according to a memo to the commission from Senior Community Development Specialist Jen Hassebroek.
The spray valves can cut water and energy use by 57 percent and the aerators can save the average Minnesotan 21,000 gallons of water per year per faucet, according to a letter from the Clean Energy Resources Teams about the program.

The commission decided in April that it wanted to look for ways to promote water conservation because the city’s water delivery facilities are the biggest energy user among city-owned facilities, according to the memo.
