Oakdale Environmental Commission Wants to Give Away Cheap, Water-Saving Devices

Oakdale's Environmental Management Commission is hoping the city can give away faucet aerators to businesses that use a lot of water.

Oakdale’s Environmental Management Commission voted Monday to move to offer businesses water-saving devices at discounted rates, and also decided to look into offering faucet aerators to businesses free of charge.

The aerators, being offered for 50 cents through the Minnesota Water Saving Bulk Buy promotion, can cut the water usage of a typical hand washing sink in a professional kitchen from 26,000 gallons to 5,000 gallons per year, according to a brochure from the Clean Energy Resource Teams.

“That would be huge if we could promote (using aerators),” said Environmental Management Commission member Lee Hoskins.

The commission directed senior community development specialist Jen Hassebroek to look at the possibility of getting grant money to pay for faucet aerators, and to move forward with sending out brochures to businesses such as schools and restaurants, offering them discounted water saving aerators and spray valves.
