Parks Commission to Hear About Summer Programs

The Oakdale Parks and Recreation Commission is scheduled to hear about spring and summer programs at its meeting Tuesday.

Oakdale’s Parks and Recreation department will offer residents some new options to get out and active this summer.

The city’s Parks and Recreation Commission will talk about spring and summer programming at its meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 17, at Oakdale City Hall.

Here are a few of the new or improved programs listed in a memo to commissioners from Parks and Recreation Director Bruce Anderson:

  • 5K Run and Walk: In conjunction with Summerfest on June 25, the department will offer the city’s first 5K Run and Walk at the . Registration is required by June 10.
  • Up with the Birds: Parks and Recreation Commission Chair Jill Sadler is leading four Saturday birding walks through the . Upcoming walks are from 8 to 9:30 a.m. June 4 and July 9. The cost is $3 per walk.
  • In the Streets: The department is expanding its In the Streets (ITS) program, which takes a former ambulance equipped with jumbo games, a television hooked up to Wii and Kinect systems and other recreation equipment to residential cul-de-sacs, parks and daycare facilities.
