Sen. Wiger Attends Ceremonial Signing of Education Bill

The 2013 Legislature increased funding for public schools over the next two years and funded all-day kindergarten statewide for the first time and changes high school testing requirements.

Sen. Chuck Wiger, who represents parts of Oakdale, attended the June 5 ceremonial signing of a bill that secured $40 million for early-education investments.

Gov. Mark Dayton and other education leaders were on hand for the event.

“We knew this session we had to return to the priorities that have made Minnesota the state it is today,” Wiger, chair of the Senate Education Finance Committee, said in a statement. “With these investments, we are committing to our youngest learners and making sure they are ready to learn when they enter kindergarten. With this investment, our schools will be the envy of the country.”
