New Athletic Director at Transfiguration Catholic School Has His Hands Full

Matt Weingartz, Transfiguration's new Athletic Director, is also the Social Studies teacher and boys soccer coach at Hill Murray High School.

We all know life can get a little hectic at times when you are trying to juggle both work and family. Matt Weingartz, the new Athletic Director at Transfiguration Catholic School, surely knows it.

Weingartz is not only the new director, but the middle school Social Studies teacher as well, and at the end of his day he doesn’t go home, but to Hill Murray High School to coach boys soccer.

“The fall can be very challenging. I have three jobs that take up all of my time,” he said.  “My wife is very supportive. Without her I would not be able to put in the long hours.”

Weingartz, who has been teaching at for eight years, is hoping to make a few minor changes to the athletic department.

“I am going to look at what works and fix what doesn’t. I want to create a culture that athletics are an extension of the classroom and have as many of our students here participate in a positive athletic experience,” he said.

Weingartz is also fairly familiar with how things have worked in the past, as he is a member of Transfiguration’s Class of 1995.

According to Weingartz, the school has undergone many changes since he was a student, including additions to the gym, doubling of classes and improvements in technology.

“While in that time the school has doubled in size, the same small school atmosphere still exists,” he said.

Weingartz said he is looking forward to everything in the upcoming school year, both the challenges and the rewards in all three of his positions.

“I get a great deal of joy from watching students ‘get it,’ when it finally clicks and the confusion is gone,” he said. “Getting to that point can be very challenging as a teacher, but when they arrive at it, it is very rewarding.”

Weingartz also said he is looking forward to installing the “Tiger Pride” in everything they do.

“I want us to be a high quality athletic program that strives for excellence both in the classroom and on the field,” he said.
