New Principal on Deck for Skyview Elementary in Oakdale

Current Principal Carol Erickson is retiring.

Skyview Elementary School in Oakdale is set to have a new principal next fall.

Current Principal Carol Erickson is retiring, said Jennifer McNeil, communications coordinator with District 622. The school board tonight, April 23, is expected to approve the hire of the new principal, Travis Barringer.

Barringer is presently the principal at River Crest Elementary School in Hudson, Wis. He told the school board there that his resignation would be effective June 30.

In his letter to the Hudson Board of Education, Barringer said:

“River Crest is a strong community of students, families, and staff dedicated to the social-emotional and academic achievement of each student. I am proud of the success students have achieved during my three years as principal. My resignation from River Crest is not done without careful consideration and I was not actively seeking another principal position,” he wrote. “I have been offered an opportunity to lead a school with a unique multi-age configuration, something for which I have a passion. The compensation package is significant enough to be another factor in my decision to resign from River Crest. An additional factor in my decision to leave the Hudson School District is the negativity and unjust public criticism directed at administrators throughout my three years in Hudson.”

Hudson school district Superintendent Mary Bowen-Eggebraaten said River Crest was “fortunate” to have Barringer leading the school over the past three years.

“He has worked collaboratively with staff members and parents to make River Crest a very special caring learning environment for students,” she said. “He has been a positive role model for students, and the impact of his leadership will be felt even after his departure.”
