North and Tartan Teaming Up for Make a Wish Foundation

Student councils from both schools are working together to organize a Cinco de Mayo 5K run.

Students from North and high schools are defying their status as cross-town rivals.

Members from the two schools’ student councils have teamed up to put on a 5K run that will benefit the Make a Wish Foundation of Minnesota.  

“I think it’s good to work with schools in the district and get the whole community involved,” said Paige Holm, an 11th-grader on the North High School Student Council.

The Cinco de Mayo-themed run takes place May 5, starting at the park and ride lot at .

Entrance fees of $20 ($25 on the day of the race) will go toward the foundation, and participants can choose to walk or run the route, said Carly Hayes, an 11th-grade member of the Tartan student council.

“We just want people to come out and support it,” she said. “It’s for a really good cause that’s going to make a really huge difference.”

The route travels west on Fourth Street, north on Helmo Avenue, east on Seventh Street and Ninth Street and then South on Inwood Avenue back to Fourth Street.

To participate, send a $20 payment and registration form to Jody Olsen/5K Race, 2416 East 11th Ave., North St. Paul, MN, 55109 before the day of the run, or show up at the Guardian Angels Park and Ride lot at 8 a.m. the day of the race with a $25 payment. The race starts at 9 a.m.
