Key to Awesomeness: Three Skyview Middle School students were chosen from hundreds of young singers throughout the state to perform in the Minnesota Honor Choir Festival in November. It was seventh-grader Theja Ingebrand’s second time being part of the honor choir. Sixth-graders Gabi Rongstad and Alison Anderson went for the first time this year, but they said they hope to return in the future.

The students arrived at the college in St. Peter early in the morning and spent the entire day preparing with their group for their evening concert. They were expected to memorize the music before the rehearsals started.

The sixth-graders said the festival gave them a chance to go musically where they’d never gone before—like singing in German and Spanish.

“I thought I would never be able to get them down, but I did,” Anderson said.

All three girls said they love to sing—and they have no shortage of school activities in which to pursue their passion. They’ve all been involved in musicals and show choir.

They said being part of the honor choir was a great learning experience, but also a lot of fun.

“The whole day you meet new people that have interests like you,” Ingebrand said. “It’s a really fun experience.”
