Principal at Oakdale’s Transfiguration Catholic School Spends Day on the Roof

After students at the Oakdale school surpassed their $40,000 goal for a major fundraiser earlier this month, Jan Heuman agreed to spend the day on the roof.

As students came outside to say hello, Transfiguration Catholic School Principal Jan Heuman said she hopes none of them gets in trouble.

“It is a little different going to the principal’s office today,” she said.

“My home away from home,” she said Wednesday.

Heuman has always had fun rewarding students for their efforts, including once letting them give her rainbow-colored hair.

“Every year I try to come up with something silly,” she said.

Out in the drizzle Wednesday morning, Heuman said she had fielded a few phone calls but was still seeing if she could access the school's Wi-Fi for her iPad.

She had an umbrella and chair and table, “and of course I’ve called down for coffee,” Heuman said.

The kids worked hard to reach their goal, she said, and she was glad to do something offbeat to recognize their accomplishment.

“You take one for the team,” she said. “But it’s fun. The students get a kick out of it, and I do, too.”
