Whiz Kids: Skyview Middle School's District Champion Knowledge Bowl Team

Oakdale Patch Whiz Kids of the Week: Knowledge Bowl team members: Kyle Shipman, Dev Nambury, Anthony Mazza, Thomas Bao and Brandon Ong.

Accomplishment: On Tuesday, Feb. 22, the team claimed the title of District Middle School Knowledge Bowl Champions.

Key to Awesomeness: Winning at Knowledge Bowl requires not only a head full of facts and figures, but the ability to retrieve the information fast. The members of one Skyview Middle School Knowledge Bowl team showed their mettle in the fast-paced quiz competition, which is played Jeopardy-style, complete with buzzers. Skyview’s team of Kyle Shipman, Dev Nambury, Anthony Mazza, Thomas Bao and Brandon Ong came out ahead of teams from John Glenn and Maplewood middle schools in the district contest at Skyview Middle School Feb. 22.

"The meet was competitive," said Ong, a sixth-grader. "I like Knowledge Bowl because it's fun and it tests my knowledge."

Other Skyview Middle School Knowledge Bowl teams took ribbons and trophies for third, fourth and sixth places at the meet.
