Football Playoff Preview: Tartan vs. Stillwater

Tartan faces No. 3 seed Stillwater on the road Tuesday in Section 2AAAAA playoff action.

FOOTBALL PLAYOFF PREVIEW

(4-4, 3-4 Classic Suburban Conference) vs. Stillwater (6-2, 6-2 Suburban East Conference)

PLAYMAKERS

  • Stacy Kalkwarf (Tartan – Wide Receiver) showed his versatility by throwing for a 67-yard touchdown pass against South St. Paul. Has caught 21 passes for 238 and two scores this season. 
  • Halim Bilal (Tartan – Running Back) has rushed 90 times for a team-best 372 yards for the Titans. 
  • Nick Anderson, (Stillwater – Running Back) a junior rusher, scored two touchdowns versus Hastings last weekend. He finished with 22 carries for 140 yards in the win. Anderson has eight rushing touchdowns this season and has gained 730 rushing yards
  • Nate Ricci (Stillwater – Quarterback) can beat you with his legs or arm. The junior threw for two touchdowns in Wednesday regular season finale as he completed 4 of 7 passes for 53 yards and added 47 rushing yards. Ricci has thrown for seven touchdowns and has five rushing scores. He has rushed for 636 yards and passed for 441.


TITANS WIN IF...
They can get off to a faster start in the postseason. The Titans have been outscored 87-35 in the first quarter this season. The winner of this game faces the victor of Mounds View versus Roseville.

PONIES WIN IF...
They can continue to move the ball on the ground. The Ponies are averaging 207.1 yards rushing per game and have scored 15 touchdowns.

WEATHER: Mostly cloudy, 42 degrees
LAST MEETING: Stillwater defeated Tartan 32-16 on the road in last year's section semifinals The Ponies are 21-3 against Tartan in the all-time series. Stillwater also defeated the Titans in the 2006 section finals.
