Helicopters in Oakdale Related to Mosquitoes

The Metropolitan Mosquito Control District's choppers do not spray insecticide to control adult mosquitoes.

The Metropolitan Mosquito Control District on Monday, May 13, planned to send its helicopters over Oakdale to conduct treatments to control mosquito larvae.

“Helicopters apply a dry granule or pellet containing a natural soil bacterium or a mosquito growth regulator to wetlands to prevent larval mosquitoes from becoming biting adults,” reads a notice on the MMCD website. “These are biorational control materials which specifically target mosquito larvae and pose no risk to human or animal health.”

MMCD helicopters do not spray insecticides to control adult mosquitoes, according to its website.
