The football team escaped Friday with a 16-12 home win over Classic Suburban Conference rival Richfield.
The Titans overcame two deficits to take a 13-12 at half, and a 32-yard field goal in the third quarter by Joe Tjosvold closed out all scoring on Friday.
The Spartans (1-6, 1-5 Classic Suburban Conference) took the early lead when Corban Halbur scored on a one-yard rush, but a failed extra point kept the score 6-0. Tartan responded with an eight-yard touchdown pass from Mitchel Grohs to Stacy Kalkwarf to take a 7-0 lead.

In the second, Richfield again took the lead with a 24-yard touchdown pass from Halbur to Deshawn Jones, but the two-point conversion failed and the Spartans again led 12-6. Tartan responded with a two-yard run by Alan Medina-Gonzalez, and after a failed two-point conversion the Titans (4-3, 3-3) led 13-12. Tartan never looked back.
Tartan’s final game of the regular season is on Wednesday on the road against South St. Paul. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
