Tartan Titans Win First Game of the Season

The Tartan Titans beat Hill-Murray School in the first game of the season last week.

The Tartan Titans are off to a good start.

The Tartan Titans played the Hill-Murray Pioneers on Thursday and took home a victory. The final score was 19-3. Tartan rushed for 299 yards and held Hill-Murray to 110 yards passing. Tartan also won the turnover battle with four take-aways compared to Hill-Murray's three take-aways.

Oakdale Patch interviewed Tartan Titans Coach Tim Murtha about last year's season and his thoughts on the coming year.

Oakdale Patch: How did the team do last year?

Murtha: We were 4-4 in the regular season and last year we lost in the first round of the playoffs to Stillwater.

Oakdale Patch: What did you learn from last year?

Murtha: We learned we needed to increase our commitment to preparation in all of its forms: academically, athletically and emotionally.

Oakdale Patch: Are you facing any challenges this year?

Murtha: We are starting a large number of juniors, so we need to grow up fast to be competitive.

Oakdale Patch: How do you feel moving into this season?

Murtha: We feel confident that we have earned the right to be successful. We had a very good summer in the weight room and we are healthy at the moment.

Oakdale Patch: How did the first game of the season go against Hill-Murray?

Murtha: Both teams made first-game type mistakes, but Tartan was able to recover from its miscues and make the plays down the stretch needed to pull out the win.
