Summerfest Medallion Hunt Begins Monday

Clues will be revealed on the city's website.

Summerfest 2013 kicks off Monday morning as the Medallion Hunt begins, with clues revealed at 8 a.m. at Oakdale City Hall, on the city’s website and the Clue Hotline: 651-734-2615.

Whoever finds the medallion wins a $1,000 cash prize, and it’s $1,500 witha Summerfest button. (The medallion is not in Walton Park). The hunt is sponsored by the Oakdale Business and Professional Association.

Summerfest buttons ($3) sold at City Hall, Furlong’s Liquor, Rainbow Foods (Oakdale), and by members of Summerfest Royalty.

Summerfest events are set for June 20-23 at Richard Walton Park.

Thursday, June 20

5 p.m.: Concessions, Maplewood/Oakdale Lions Club beer garden and bingo tent open.

5 p.m. to midnight: Gold Star carnival rides open.

6:30 p.m.: Ted Bearth Grande Parade, with Grand Marshal Jim Morphew, longtime Oakdale resident and historian. The parade route begins at Geneva Avenue and 15th Street, travels east on 15th Street, and concludes at City Hall. The parade route and nearby streets will close to traffic at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.

8 p.m.: OAA boys baseball tournament

Friday, June 21

5 p.m. to midnight: Gold Star carnival rides. People can buy an armband for unlimited rides from 5-10 p.m.; visit the city’s website for details. Also, concessions, Maplewood/Oakdale Lions Club Beer garden, and bingo tent open.

6 p.m.: OAA boys baseball tournament.

7-11 p.m.: National recording artist Rockie Lynne performs at the band shell. Admission is free.

Saturday, June 22

The day begins with the 5K run/walk and 10K run. People can register at the Discovery Center.

5K

The cost is $20 if registered by June 1, $25 between June 2 and June 21 and $30 the day of the event.

10K

The cost is $30 if registered by June 1, $35 between June 2 and June 21 and $40 the day of the event.

The registration fee includes t-shirt, chip timer, refreshments and chance for prizes.

7 a.m.: Sign-in at Discovery Center.

8 a.m.: 10K run begins.

8:10 a.m.: 5K run/walk begins (sponsored by Citizens Community Federal Bank).

8 a.m.: OASA Hughie Russell Memorial Softball Tournament.

9 a.m.: OAA boys baseball tournament.

Skateboarding

3rd Lair’s “Summer Series” contest. New this year, there is no cost to enter. Results, standings and cumulative point totals of every competitor are tracked at www.3rdlair.com. Competitors with the most points at the series end will be winner. Three overall points-winners crowned in each division: Beginner, Intermediate and Expert. The top three riders in each division, at each event, qualify for the finals at the State Fair. (The 3rd Lair event is sponsored by Western Bank.)

10 a.m.: Registration at Walton Skate Park.

11 a.m.: Contest starts.

Noon to 3 p.m.: Pickleball tournament, a non-sanctioned, single-elimination event at the hockey rink. The cost is $10 per two-person team(16 team maximum). Prizes will be awarded to the first- and second-place teams. Register by June 14 at 4444 Hadley Ave. (Pickleball tournament sponsored by Oakdale Collision Center.)

Noon to 8 p.m.: Radio Disney broadcasts from Summerfest.

Noon to 10 p.m.: Bingo.

Noon to midnight: Concessions and Maplewood/Oakdale Lions Club beer garden open, along with the carnival rides.

Noon to 1 p.m.: The Teddy Bear Band performs at the band shell. Admission is free.

1:30-3 p.m.: Resistors (variety) perform at band shell. Admission is free.

3:30-5:30 p.m.: Teen Band performs at the band shell. Admission is free.

7-11 p.m.: TC Cats perform at the band shell. Admission is free.

Sunday, June 23

8 a.m.: OASA Hughie Russell Memorial Softball Tournaments.

10 a.m.: Community outdoor worship service sponsored by Holy Cross Lutheran Church.

Noon to 6 p.m.: Concessions, Maplewood/Oakdale Lions Club beer garden and bingo tent open, along with Gold Star carnival rides

Noon to 4 p.m.: The classic car show. There is no entry fee, and people can show off any make, model or year. Find entry forms on the city’s website.

1-4 p.m.: Golden Gloves boxing, sponsored by DLI.

6 p.m.: Summerfest 2013 closes.

Monday, June 24

A new date this year for the Summerfest Royalty Coronation, which will be held at 6 p.m. at Guardian Angels Church. It is a “button event,” and buttons will be sold at the door.
