Women's 'Down and Dirty' Trail Run Set for May

The fourth annual event is planned at the Lake Elmo Park Reserve.

The fourth annual Women’s Down and Dirty 8K—a trail run at the at the Lake Elmo Park Reserve—will take place on Saturday, May 4.

The event, meant to celebrate women’s running, will also include a two-mile fun run this year sponsored by Healthy Hearts and Happy Heads of Stillwater, a program for fourth- through sixth-grade girls focusing on body image, self esteem, fitness and nutrition.

The shorter run was inspired by a mom who wanted to run with her daughter but felt the 8K was too long, according to a release from organizers.

“Don’t let the idea of trail running intimidate you. The race is 100 percent on trails and Lake Elmo Park Reserve is the perfect place to see if you like it,” reads the release. “Trail running is gaining popularity and this race will give you a taste of what the rave is all about.”

The race was founded “because many women want to get out on the trails but they do not have anyone to run with so they miss out on the beauty that our local parks have to offer,” officials said in the release. “This is your chance to get a great run and check out this particular local park. Bring the family to cheer you on.”
