John Hughes’ iconic coming of age films — Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, The Breakfast Club, Home Alone — were often set on Chicago's North Shore, reflecting the place the director called home. Now his actual Lake Forest home is on the market.

The 11,000-square-foot 1929 mansion is listed at $4.3 million, according to Curbed Chicago. It was last listed in 2011 for $5.89 million, two years after Hughes died.

Hughes and his wife, Nancy Ludwig, lived in the estate for more than 20 years.

The listing, with plenty of pictures, shows a stately mansion with lots of wood trim and sunny rooms. The home, which is half a block from the lake, has, according to the listing, “7 Bedrooms, 6 Full Bathrooms, 4 Half Baths, a handsome Library, elegant Dining Room and Living Room, lovely Garden Room, huge Family Room, Media Room, an interchangeable Office Suite and 3 car heated garage.”

The Highland Park home that Hughes made famous in Ferris Bueller's Day Off as Cameron's house has been on and off the market over the past several years.

Editor's Note: The headline on this post originally stated the house was listed at $1.6 million instead of $4.3 million. This was a mistake and has been corrected. Patch regrets the error.
