Oakdale Nature Preserve's 220 acres consist mostly of forest land with a small space for park amenities. Visitors canMore walk through prairie land, past mature trees and a 28-acre lake. Kids can jump around on playground equipment and anyone can play tennis or basketball. The site also contains the Oakdale Discovery Center, a space used for recreation department activities, meetings or receptions and nature education. There is a parking lot at the main entrance off of Hadley Avenue, as well as street parking on the Granada Avenue side of the preserve.

The Oakdale and White Bear Lake wards of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints meet at the church building onMore Hadley Avenue in Oakdale. Members of the public are welcome to attend services at the church and do research on their ancestry at the St. Paul Family History Center, which is located in the same building. The regular church building shares its campus with the St. Paul Minnesota Temple. Because the temple has been dedicated, it is only open to church members in good standing. Church members perform ceremonies and make covenants inside the temple. It is the only Mormon temple in the state.
