Oakdale Man Heads to Prison for Stealing Mail, Bank Fraud, Identity Theft

Ricky W. Mariano, 41, of Oakdale, was sentenced in federal court in St. Paul on July 25 for mail theft, bank fraud and identity theft.

An Oakdale man was sentenced in federal court Wednesday (July 25) for stealing mail and using the victims' identities to create bank accounts and obtain cash. Ricky W. Mariano, 41, of Oakdale, will spend more than five years in federal prison for two counts of theft and receipt of stolen mail, two counts of destruction of mailboxes, one count of bank fraud conspiracy, one count of bank fraud and one count of aggravated identity theft. Mariano was charged in a superseding indictment on Jan. 10 and was convicted on March 16 following a jury trial.  According to the indictment and evidence presented at trial, Mariano — also known as Ricky William Scharrer — stole mail from mailboxes in Dakota, Ramsey and Washington counties from July 2010 to …

Oakdale Man Found Guilty of Mail Theft, Bank Fraud and Identity Theft

An Oakdale man stole mail and used information and checks to steal money and create fraudulent bank accounts.

A federal jury found a 40-year-old Oakdale man guilty of stealing mail and using the information to open bank accounts and get cash, according to a press release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office. Ricky W. Mariano was convicted Friday, March 16, of two counts of theft and receipt of stolen mail, two counts of destruction of letter boxes, one count of bank fraud conspiracy, one count of bank fraud and one count of aggravated identity theft. Mariano stole mail from Washington, Dakota and Ramsey counties, according to the indictment and information presented at trial, the release says. He used personal information, checks and credit cards in the mail to steal money, the release says. He and co-defendants used chemicals to erase certain details …
