Senators Chuck Wiger and Susan Kent recently introduced legislation that is aimed at furthering economic development in Oakdale.
Oakdale's economic development could be getting a boost in the future. Sen. Chuck Wiger (D-43) and Sen. Susan Kent (D-53) recently introduced SF 48 in the Senate Taxes committee, which would extend Tax Increment Financing (TIF) districts in Oakdale. This would allow further economic development at Tartan Crossing and the Tanners Lake area. “These districts are really important for the entire east metro region,” said Kent. “When we are able to develop this area, it will provide a significant return on investment.” The bill would extend the TIF districts to 2030. They are currently set to expire in 2024. “This is designed to continue the revitalization of Oakdale. There has been a great deal of work already done tearing down existing …

What should fill the vacancy at 7161 10th Street?
It once was a frame shop. Now it sits vacant. Nancy's Frame Shop used to occupy the space at 7161 10th Street in Bergen Plaza, which was constructed in 1989. The space is 1,392 square feet and is leased by the Inland Real Estate Corporation. "Every retail shop we lease is put into a new 'vanilla box' condition — new lights, ceiling, paint, carpet, etc.," said Rick Plessner, the vice president of Inland. Plessner said that some tenants negotiate a Leasehold Improvement Allowance and Inland builds that cost into the lease agreement over a five or 10 year term. Oakdale's Tree Board is planning a tree planting project on the peninsula into Mud Lake.
Tree Planting Planned on Peninsula: Oakdale’s Tree Board is planning a tree planting on the peninsula into Mud Lake on the north side of the Oakdale Nature Preserve this summer, chair Jane Klein told the Oakdale City Council at a workshop meeting Tuesday. The project would be a lower-maintenance alternative to the board’s typical summer streetscape project, she said. Council member Stan Karwoski reiterated his desire to build a floating bridge across Mud Lake to better connect the rest of the Oakdale Nature Preserve with the peninsula. Bergen Plaza Entrance to Stay Put: City staff originally thought that the entrance to Bergen Plaza along 10th Street might have to be shifted to the west when a new signal was installed there, however, …
