New Optical Shop, Boutique Has Grand Opening Saturday

EyeStyles Optical and Boutique is having its grand opening on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

EyeStyles Optical and Boutique might be a sight for sore eyes.  The optical shop will be another option to purchase new glasses in Oakdale. But it will also offer an array of gift items — from trendy handbags to local salsa.  EyeStyles owner Nikki Griffin, who has been an optician for 22 years, has been preparing to open her own optical shop for the past four months. She worked as an optician at the Allina Medical Clinic's eye center for about three years until the eye center recently closed.  While Griffin was exploring her options, she felt Oakdale residents could use another option to fill their optical prescriptions.  "This is a good border location. Salvation Army Creates a Different Kind of Community Center in Oakdale

Dreamcoat Coffee is open, and an adjoining boutique is slated to open soon.

The business of building community centers isn't new to The Salvation Army, but the organization is trying to do it in a new way in Oakdale. The coffee shop side of the organization's first coffee shop/boutique opened in September at 6060 50th St.—the space formerly occupied by Mrs. B's Coffee—and the boutique is slated to open in January.  "A coffee house has developed into a place of community in today's day and age," said Salvation Army program specialist Lars Carlson, who manages Dreamcoat Coffee along with his wife Kristin Carlson. Gathering places are needed in this time when more people are spending time alone in front of their computer or television, Carlson said.
