Tartan High School students who launched a business last fall with the help of a local restaurant just completed their project with positive results.
Tartan High School students who launched a business last fall have some good news for their shareholders. Shareholders will in fact be getting a return on their investment. Students who are involved in the school's marketing class and the DECA School Store partnered with D:Spot in Maplewood to launch their own business to sell chicken wings to students at school. Marketing Teacher Craig Spreiter oversaw the co-curricular project. "The kids learned a lot and enjoyed keeping up with it, especially going through and crunching the numbers," Spreiter said after the project wrapped up. DECA students at Tartan High School are learning how to run their own business this fall.
Students at Tartan High School are taking business into their own hands. Students who are involved in the school's marketing class and the DECA School Store are partnering with a local restaurant and have launched their own business. The idea formed in an advertising class last year where students had to pitch advertising ideas to local businesses, said Marketing Teacher Craig Spreiter who is overseeing the co-curricular project. Students in the advertising class formed a relationship with the owner of D Spot Wings in Maplewood. The business relationship carried over to the group's new project for this fall. The high school teacher used his real-world business acumen to build a successful DECA program that focuses on student development.
Craig Spreiter’s life did not exactly turn out how he had envisioned. Tartan High School’s beloved and respected DECA teacher laughs now about his grand plans to make millions as Pillsbury’s top salesperson by the time he was 30. “By the ripe old age of 40 I planned to have all the success I needed and then I’d go back and start a DECA chapter in a high school with the aim of passing on real-world experience to the kids,” Spreiter laughs. But a short stint with more than one shady sales outfit after college disenchanted him and derailed his future in sales.
