The owner of an Oakdale home destroyed by fire in late 2009 has two weeks before the city will seek a court order to demolish the home, the Oakdale City Council decided Tuesday night. Progress on the house—located at 7356 Stillwater Blvd.—has moved much slower than a typical house fire case because owner Donald Brandt didn’t have insurance, and has had financial difficulties in moving on the project, said Oakdale Building Official Bill Schmitt. The Oakdale City Council is scheduled to discuss tearing down a Stillwater Boulevard home that was destroyed in a fire in November of 2009, at its meeting Tuesday. According to a report from building official Bill Schmitt, the owner of the home at 7356 Stillwater Blvd. received two notices in April that he had until May 5 to obtain a building permit or a demolition permit, but he has not responded. The city helped the owner clean up junk in his back yard and assisted him in obtaining a building permit, the report says, however the owner never secured the permit.
