Trial Date Set for Man Suspected of Stabbing Woman to Death

Thomas J. Fox, 44, was accused of murdering a 39-year-old Oakdale woman last year.

A man accused of murdering a 39-year-old Oakdale woman last year will go on trial in March. Thomas J. Fox, 44, was indicted with the murder of Oakdale resident Lori C. Baker in April. He was charged with first-degree premeditated murder and first-degree intentional murder during the course of an aggravated robbery. Baker was found dead in her Oakdale Village apartment by the family she nannied for after she did not show up for work on Dec. 28. Her employer found Baker under a blanket surrounded by blood and Baker had apparently been stabbed to death, according to a report by the Oakdale-Lake Elmo Review. Baker's 2009 Mazda was missing from her apartment, which led authorities to Fox after finding the car and checking its registration. Fox …

Fox Indicted for Murder of Oakdale Woman

Thomas J. Fox, 44, was indicted for two counts of first-degree murder.

A 44-year-old man was indicted Thursday in connection with the murder of Oakdale resident Lori C. Baker, according to a press release from the Washington County Attorney’s Office. Thomas J. Fox was indicted for first-degree premeditated murder and first-degree intentional murder during the course of an aggravated robbery, the release says. Baker, 39, was found stabbed to death in her Oakdale Village apartment Dec. 28 by the woman whose family she worked for as a nanny. When Fox was arrested the day after Baker's body was discovered, police found him at a Greyhound Bus station with a ticket to Milwaukee under another name, the Pioneer Press reported, quoting Washington County Attorney Pete Orput. Apartment Manager Pushes for Positive Change in the Wake of Tragedy

Oakdale Village Apartments Community Manager Sarah Kohler was given the city’s Distinguished Citizen Award.

In late December last year, Oakdale Village Apartments Community Manager Sarah Kohler faced a situation she never expected—the murder of one of her residents. She’d worked so hard over the past six years to make the apartment complex safe, she said, that when she got the news Dec. 28 that 39-year-old Lori C. Baker had been killed in her apartment, she took it personally. Still, she wasted little time focusing on the negative. Instead she supported the police department's efforts, informed and reassured Oakdale Village residents, enhanced onsite security and arranged services for the victim’s family, Mayor Carmen Sarrack said Tuesday, March 13, before presenting Kohler with the Distinguished Citizen Award. I know several people who have lived in the "Oakdale Ghetto", and the got out because they didn't feel safe. Management took their concerns with a grain of salt, and did nothing to fix potentially serious problems (like Jane said about the security door, among other things). Suspect in Oakdale Woman's Murder Identified, No Charges Yet

A man whom police believe was connected to the 39-year-old woman's murder was arrested Thursday and is being held on unrelated charges.

Oakdale police released the name of a suspect Friday in the murder of 39-year-old Lori Christine Baker, of Oakdale, who was found dead in her Oakdale Village apartment Wednesday. Thomas James Fox, 44, of St. Paul, was arrested Thursday afternoon at 10th Street and LaSalle Avenue in Minneapolis during a traffic stop. He was wanted on a Minnesota Department of Corrections Warrant for running from a halfway house while he was in a work release program, according to the news release. He had been convicted of an aggravated robbery with a handgun charge, the release says. He’s currently being held at the Hennepin County Jail, according to the release.
