Elderly Woman Found Safe Thanks In Part to the Code Red Notification System

Shortly after receiving a Code Red notification from the Washington County Sheriff's Office about a missing elderly woman, a Mahtomedi resident saw the missing person standing outside of their residence, and called police.

An elderly woman wondered away from a senior living center in Mahtomedi on Monday, but was safely located within an hour, thanks in large part to the Code Red Notification system. The Washington County Sheriff's Office received a call of a missing elderly female in Mahtomedi, according to a Washington County Sheriff’s Office Facebook post. The woman had been enrolled in the Sheriff's Office Project Lifesaver Program, but was not currently wearing the Program's locator bracelet. Multiple deputies, fire personal and volunteers from the sheriff's office responded to the area in an attempt to locate the missing vulnerable adult, the post reads. The Sheriff's Office Communications Center sent out a Code Red announcement to residents in the area…

Titans Maul Mahtomedi in 78-58 Win

Tartan rode a relentless offense to win over the well-coached Zephyrs.

The second-ranked Tartan (17-1) boys basketball team  jumped all over the Mahtomedi Zephyrs (10-7) from the opening tip off in the Titans’ 78-58 win at Mahtomedi on Friday night. Despite playing away from their home court, the Titans brought with them an intensity and focus most teams only find in front of their home crowd. “Coach (Klingsporn) does a great job of getting us pumped up in the locker room before the games,” said senior captain Matt Gonsior. “We try really hard to get focused and stay on the same page throughout the game. If we do that, we can execute our game plan.” Behind an unrelenting pace and several offensive bursts in the first half, the Titans jumped to a 34-19 lead with 3:30 left in the half. Tartan’s tandem of senior…

Tartan Boys Hockey falls to Mahtomedi 7-3 on Saturday

The Tartan Titans Boys Hockey team lost to the Mahtomedi Zephyrs in a high scoring and highly penalized game.

The Tartan Titans hosted the Mahtomedi Zephyrs Saturday afternoon in a game that initially promised to be a close-fought battle, but was soon decided at the onset of the second period. After a scoreless first period, which included terrific goaltending and a balanced attack, it came as a surprise that Mahtomedi won by a  lopsided score of 7-3. Most of the opening period was played closely by both teams, but Mahtomedi dominated the final minutes and led in shots 11 to 8. Tartan goaltender Brian Loibl made some saves which temporarily kept the Titans in the game. The second period began well for Tartan as Eric Olheiser scored 27 seconds into the period. However things quickly turned for the worse for the Titans. After several critical …

Tartan Boys Basketball Wins a Close Victory over Spring Lake Park

Tartan's boys basketball team beat Spring Lake Park 64-57.

Tartan's boys basketball team won a hard-fought game 64-57 Thursday over Spring Lake Park to champion the Tartan Holiday Boys Varsity Basketball Tournament. The Titans beat the Brooklyn Center Centaurs on Tuesday and the Prior Lake Lakers on Wednesday to make it to the championship game Dec. 30. In the final game, the teams' scores were rarely more than four points apart. The Titans struggled with offense, missing multiple shots and lagging behind Spring Lake Park for most of the first half, but coming back in the last minute before halftime to move into the lead with a score of 27-25. The Titans "aren't really clicking yet," on offense, said forward Luke Preiner, but their defensive playing saved them in the game. "(The opposing players…

Tartan Girls Hockey Comes Up Short In Its Own Tournament

Tartan's girls hockey team fell 3-1 to East Ridge in the championship game.

The saying that two out of three ain't bad doesn't apply to the Tartan girls hockey team. Andrea Heller scored once, but the Titans fell 3-1 to East Ridge Thursday in the final of their holiday tournament. Maggie Straka made 27 saves. "You want to win them all, but overall the girls played three good games, with this probably being the poorest of them," said coach Jeff Lanz. Tartan beat Mahtomedi 4-2 and the St. Paul Blades 6-2 in its first two tournament games. Still, the Titans (7-10) have won four of six, outscoring its opponents 18-13 in those games. The only other hiccup was a 4-0 loss at Champlin Park two days before Christmas. "From tryouts to now, we've seen lots of improvement and there's a lot of time left," Lanz said. East …

After Second Lopsided Victory, Tartan Boys Basketball Headed for Championship Game

Tartan's boys basketball team defeated the Prior Lake Lakers 53-35 Wednesday.

Tartan High School boy's basketball defeated the Prior Lake Lakers 53-35 Wednesday night during the Tartan basketball tournament. The lopsided victory was won by the athleticism of the Tartan squad.  The Lakers' height advantage (four players 6 foot 5 inches or taller versus Tartan's two) could not make up for the Titans' hustle and determination. The 18-point victory was good, coach Mark Klingsporn said, but he believes his team still has some work to do. "We played so hard defensively, we do a great job of that. We just got to get better at offense," said Klingsporn. "If we get better on offense, then we will be all right. We got a lot of work to do offensively. The kids give a great effort. These are good kids to coach." Seniors …

Other schools in the tournament are East Ridge High School in Woodbury and the St. Paul Blades (a cooperative team made up of players from four St. Paul High Schools). Here is some quick information on the game: The importance of the win: "Today actually was a tournament game and a conference game in one, so this is a big game for us," said coach Jeff Lanz. "We're very happy with the outcome. We knew they'd be tough, but the girls were up for it today." Key players: Goalie Maggie Straka and forward Marina Frascone, Lanz said. "Finally (Frascone's) hard work is paying off," …
