The mechanical bull at the new Cowboy Jack’s in Woodbury is from the 1980 John Travolta movie Urban Cowboy. “It’s a little piece of trivia and it’s kind of fun,” said Chris Diebold, owner. He said it was a “super long story” getting the bull from the movie. The first mechanical bull he planned to buy didn’t pan out when the seller on eBay seemed a little fishy, Diebold said. The mechanical bull comes from Gilley’s, a bar in Texas that served as the backdrop for Urban Cowboy, he said. Some scenes from "Profile of a Killer" were shot in Roseville and St. Paui. The film is being shown at Marcus Oakdale Cinema theatres.
The new independent film Profile of a Killer, which is currently playing in two local theaters, has some Twin Cities connections. Held over for the second week at the Marcus Oakdale Theatre and Hastings theaters, Profile of a Killer includes some scenes shot in Roseville and St. Paul, according to Greg Reid, father of Jasmine Reid, producer of the psychological thriller. Reid, of Roseville, said that the local scenes include footage from his home and garage and stretches along Highway 61. He added the movie also includes local actors and film production workers. A special screening of "Janeane from Des Moines" is planned for Tuesday, Oct. 23 at Carmike Cinemas. The film follows an Iowa housewife who seeks answers from GOP presidential candidates on the campaign trail.
An award-winning filmmaker who is on a three-week tour is bringing her movie to Oakdale to give a different perspective on the GOP campaign trail leading up to the Iowa Caucuses. Janeane from Des Moines will have a special screening at Carmike Cinemas in Oakdale on Tuesday, Oct. 23. Written and directed by Grace Lee, the drama is co-written with and stars Jane Edith Wilson as Janeane, a conservative Iowa housewife who seeks answers from the Republican presidential candidates during the actual 2012 Iowa Caucuses. Wilson has appeared in several popular TV shows, including ER, Curb Your Enthusiasm and Seinfeld. Lee described the film to Oakdale Patch as a "mix of fiction and non-fiction."
