A rash of burglaries have occurred at Oakdale Village Apartments.
Oakdale Police are investigating a string of burglaries at Oakdale Village Apartments recently. An unknown suspect broke into 11 detached garages sometime between 4:30 p.m. Jan. 23 and 10:30 a.m. Jan. 24. Management reported that three of the 11 garages had not been entered. One of the tenants reported that the suspect or suspects broke his vehicle's window in his garage and stole his GPS and a screen for his camera. The total loss is estimated at $220. Another tenant reported that his vehicle was also broken into. The suspect took his Pioneer CD player, tool shop drill and a scooter located in his garage. The total loss is estimated at $710. The Oakdale Village Apartments will be hosting a Back-to-School Picnic for Oakdale Elementary students on Tuesday.
The Oakdale Village Apartments is hosting a back-to-school picnic for Oakdale Elementary families from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 21. Local churches have collected school supplies and filled 98 backpacks with items required at Oakdale Elementary this year. There will also be boxes full of supplies for older children too, said Sarah Kohler, the community manager of Oakdale Village Apartments and Townhomes. Oakdale Elementary Principal Peter Mau and teachers will distirbute supplies and meet with students and their families. Teachers will also help children select books to read with their families. The Oakdale Police Department will also attend to meet with community members and support the children for the upcoming school year. …

In late December last year, Oakdale Village Apartments Community Manager Sarah Kohler faced a situation she never expected—the murder of one of her residents. She’d worked so hard over the past six years to make the apartment complex safe, she said, that when she got the news Dec. 28 that 39-year-old Lori C. Baker had been killed in her apartment, she took it personally. Still, she wasted little time focusing on the negative. Instead she supported the police department's efforts, informed and reassured Oakdale Village residents, enhanced onsite security and arranged services for the victim’s family, Mayor Carmen Sarrack said Tuesday, March 13, before presenting Kohler with the Distinguished Citizen Award. Lori Christine Baker was found dead in her Oakdale apartment with multiple stab wounds. A suspect was arrested in connection with the case.
Tenants at Oakdale Village Apartments got the chance Thursday night to hear from police and building management about the murder of a fellow tenant, who was found dead in her bedroom Wednesday, Dec. 28. Police have arrested Thomas J. Fox, 44, in connection with the murder of 39-year-old Lori Christine Baker, a longtime nanny who was discovered by her employer after she didn’t show up for work. When an Oakdale Village resident asked police why Fox—who was arrested last Thursday—hasn’t been charged yet in connection with the murder, Oakdale Community Affairs Officer Michelle Stark said police are taking advantage of the extra time they have to investigate since Fox is being held on unrelated charges for absconding from a work release program…
